| On 30 October 2023, the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, held a telephone conversation with the Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg.The ministers unanimously praised the excellent bilateral relations. In their first conversation after the new head of Slovak diplomacy took office, both ministers called for strengthening practical cooperation in several areas of common interest"Relations between our countries are intense and full of interpersonal contacts. Austria is our key partner in regional and European politics and I want to stress that we are equally prepared to have even closer cooperation and to identify new opportunities in areas that can bring further benefits and prosperity to our citizens and businesses," Minister Juraj Blanár emphasised.
Discussion primarily focused on the current situation both in Ukraine and in the Middle East. The ministers also exchanged information on the growing migration faced by both countries and agreed to work closely together to prevent irregular migration. Minister Schallenberg also informed his partner that this is a very sensitive issue even in Austria. Both ministers agreed to continue border controls, a measure supported by both sides. Cooperation with Austria is important for Slovakia, as it is an important trading partner and the second largest foreign investor in the country.
"Almost two thousand Austrian companies create up to 40 thousand jobs in Slovakia. However, I am glad that the number of Slovak companies in Austria is growing year by year and today there are more than five hundred of them," stated the Slovak Minister with regards to this fact. .odkaz na stránku |
