| In Slovakia, the risk of poverty is also increasing among workers |

| The risk of poverty in Slovakia is growing and the phenomenon of working poverty is also spreading. Analyst Ján Koč drew attention to this at a webinar of the Confederation of Trade Unions (KOZ) of the Slovak Republic focused on the labor market in numbers. Together with economist Anton Marcinčin, he presented findings from analytical publications of the KOZ SR on the development of working conditions, wages and the socio-economic situation.
Koč stated that approximately 11% of employees in Slovakia live below the poverty line and, according to him, the problem is not only related to contributions, but to the broader setting of the tax system. The impact of consolidation on households was also discussed, while they do not consider an improvement in the situation likely.
They identified, among other things, uncertainty in the economy, problems in the automotive industry and regional differences as factors worsening the situation on the labor market. They also drew attention to the paradox of the labor shortage, which they estimated at 80,000 to 100,000 people, according to some estimates up to 150,000, while labor mobility is mainly hindered by the lack of affordable housing.
Koč also pointed out significant regional differences in the risk of poverty. In the Bratislava region, approximately eight percent of people are at risk, and in the Preov region, according to him, up to 28%. Analysts also mentioned the high tax wedge, especially for childless workers, which, according to them, contributes to the departure of some young people to work abroad.
At the end of the webinar, a call was made for systemic changes and a focus on wage growth. They pointed out that real wages are stagnating or falling, especially in the public sector, and unemployment tends to grow.odkaz na stránku |
