| Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mikuláš Dzurinda received today the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States James B. Steinberg. In his introductory remarks, the Mr Steinberg thanked Slovakia for the engagement in Afghanistan. He also commended Slovakia’s readiness to increase the number of troops there at times of crisis. The core of the discussion focused on the situation in the Western Balkans, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Serbia. In reference to Mr Dzurinda’s visit to Serbia yesterday, Mr Steinberg was interested in Slovakia’s view of the dialogue between Belgrade and Prishtina. The two politicians also addressed energy security and the developments in Central Europe. The meeting confirmed the strategic nature of US-Slovak relations and laid ground for discussions between the Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs and the US Secretary of State that will be held in Washington, D.C. shortly.
