| Changes to (Some) Visa Validity / Fees for Slovakia |

The U.S. visa regime works according to the principle of reciprocity, meaning that we try to match foreign governments’ policies as far as validity and fees. After several years of negotiations, the Slovak government has been unable to increase visa validity for Americans working in Slovakia beyond two years (24 months). Currently, Slovaks working temporarily in the United States in the H, L, O, P, and R categories receive visas valid for five years (60 months).
Therefore, effective immediately, the validity for the H, L, O, P, and R nonimmigrant visa (NIV) categories for Slovak nationals changes from the current 60 months, multiple entries to 24 months, multiple entries. A $60 reciprocity fee, payable at the U.S. Embassy at the time of interview, will also be added to bring the two countries’ fees into a more reciprocal relationship.
