| Slovakia to Help Croatia Finish EU Accession Negotiations |
| Bratislava, 04.03.2011 |
 |
| Bratislava, March 4 (TASR) - Croatia hopes to accomplish its EU accession negotiations successfully by June 2011 and Slovakia will help the country achieve this goal, Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosorova and Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radicova agreed at their joint press conference in Bratislava on Friday.
"We want to be helpful in the acceleration of the accession negotiations in a way that they could be accomplished in June this year," said Radicova, adding that Slovakia has various reasons for this. First of all, Croatia's EU accession will contribute to greater stability in the region.
Kosorova appreciated the assistance offered by Radicova.
Croatia, which at 4.5 million people is similar to Slovakia at 5.4m and has a GDP per capita only slightly below that of Slovakia is one of the favourite holiday destinations for Slovaks. In this connection, Radicova pointed to a successful co-operation between the Croatian and Slovak police during the holiday season. At the same time, she called on Croatians to come and spend their winter holidays in the Slovak mountains.
Kosorova pointed to the situation of the Slovak minority in Croatia and of the Croatian minority in Slovakia, viewing both as good examples of how countries should treat their minorities.
The premiers also discussed energy security, strengthening of economic co-operation and investments. Kosorova said that Croatia is working on removing the barriers foreign investors face. "I firmly believe that when Croatia manages to remove these barriers, the number of investors will rise," said Radicova.
Kosorova met Radicova during her one-day visit to Slovakia. Her programme also includes a meeting with Parliamentary Chairman Richard Sulik.
