Government considers changing Hungary's official name
Budapest, 09.03.2011
By Hungary Around the Clock Fidesz proposes that Magyarország (Hungary) feature as the nation's official name, rather than the present Magyar Köztársaság (Hungarian Republic) in its draft Constitution proposal. Prime ministerial spokesman Péter Szijjártó told MTI that Hungary has always had that name, and the new Constitution will hold a provision to that effect, which will be cost-free. However a complete exchange of coins would cost Ft 30 billion, website Index observes. The idea is not financially viable, Népszabadság adds, because ID cards, passports, address cards, driving licences and coins would all have to be changed. Meanwhile former president László Sólyom met a Venice Commission delegation who are examining aspects of the constitutional drafting process, his state secretary said. Sólyom said the new Constitution must ensure the Constitutional Court's authority to examine all regulations and void unconstitutional laws. Just one ombudsman's office – the civil rights ombudsman – with several deputies, will be kept, Magyar Hírlap reports. 9.03.2011 odkaz na stránku
