Slovakia to Attain Pre-crisis Job Market Figures Only in 3-4 Years
Bratislava, 26.06.2011
Bratislava, June 26 (TASR) - Unemployment is beginning to drop, but analysts remain prudent when it comes to the chances of a gradual revival of the Slovak labour market. It was reported most recently that the jobless rate stood at 12.84 percent in May, down from the 12.94 percent observed in April. This year should, at best, see an approach to the 12-percent landmark, but in no way can we speak about pre-crisis levels, said Postova Banka analyst Eva Sadovska. "We expect pre-crisis rates to return in three or four years," she added. Volksbank analyst Vladimir Vano, for his part, said that a flow of direct investments and a strengthening of the business environment for small and medium-sized enterprises are usually major "harbingers" for the job market. Provided that favourable developments in the EU and eurozone countries persists, conditions on the Slovak labour market will continue to improve as well, albeit at a slower pace than before 2008, Vano added.
