Parliament Approves New Rules for Investment Assistance
Bratislava, 30.06.2011
The rules for providing investment assistance in Slovakia will change considerably in line with the act on investment assistance approved by Parliament on Thursday. The conditions and limits for gaining the assistance will vary according to individual regions, so that the creation of jobs in regions with high unemployment and increased added value will be supported more. According to Economy Minister Juraj Miskov (Freedom and Solidarity/SaS), who submitted the law, assistance should be aimed especially at the east of Slovakia, Zilina and Banska Bystrica regions. "For example, an investor will have no chance of getting investment assistance in Bratislava," said Miskov. At the same time, the minimum level of investment necessary for gaining financial support will be reduced by half, which should make it available to a wider group of companies. The investment support will preferably be provided in the form of tax relief. "We don't want to give investors money. We don't have much of it in the budget, after all," added Miskov. Meanwhile, the assistance period should be raised from five to ten years. TASR
