New Labour Code Makes SR 10th Most Flexible among OECD 34
OECD, 22.09.2011
Slovakia's new Labour Code valid as of September 1, 2011 is the 10th most flexible labour code among the 34 OECD countries, the Financial Policy Institute (IFP) of the Finance Ministry announced on Wednesday. "In the international comparison, the reforms [introduced by the Government this year] moves Slovakia among ten countries with the least strict protection of employment in OECD," IFP states. The new Labour Code should strengthen the flexibility of employment for a fixed period and make the rules for using the temporary labour force less restrictive. Thanks to this, the Labour Code will contribute to the creation of new jobs, which especially helps low-income groups, claims IFP. According to the calculations of the institute, the reform package should decrease the inflexibility of the labour market defined by the OECD Employment Protection Index by 0.3 points (to 1.94 points), while the average for all OECD countries is 2.24 points.
