| Retail banks in Slovakia could decrease. |

| The number of retail banks in Slovakia could decrease from the current 11 to eight in one or two years. Following the merger of mother banks of UniBanka and HVB Bank, negotiations on cooperation have also started between the shareholders of Ludova banka and Dexia, while Hungarian OTP bank wants to gain another bank in Slovakia. The sole bank with Slovak shareholders, Postova banka, could be for sale. Also, problems of Austrian bank BAWAG, the owner of Slovak Istrobanka, could lead to selling the bank.
The number of bank branches, however, should increase, from the current 1,120 to 1,225 by 2008
