| Slovak and Czech Governments May Hold Joint Session to Mark 20 |
| Prague, 21.04.2012 |
 |
| The Governments of Slovakia and the Czech Republic could convene a joint session to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the two states (1993), Slovak Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said at a press conference during his official visit to the Czech Republic on Friday.
"I deeply value relations between our countries. I'll do everything I can to maintain and boost their quality. Regardless of who was at the head of Czech government, we've always managed to have very good relations - whether it concerned Mr. [Jan] Fischer (caretaker government), [Jiri] Paroubek (then CSSD) and [Mirek] Topolanek (ODS). I believe that we'll also be on such close terms," Fico told his counterpart Petr Necas (ODS).
The Czech premier confirmed that the two countries have excellent relations in all spheres, without regard to partisan colours of their respective national governments.
Fico declined to comment on the situation on the Czech political scene, which has recently seen the Right in serious trouble and an early election looking more and more likely.
"It's their internal matter and I won't comment on it," said Fico, who was also scheduled to meet Czech President Vaclav Klaus and leader of the Social Democrats (CSSD) Bohuslav Sobotka later in the day.
In keeping with tradition, Prime Minister Fico is making his first official visit abroad to the country's former federation partner.
