| State Secretary of the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry of the Slovak Republic Peter Burian received State Minister of Commerce and Industry of India to the Slovak Republic Daggubati Purandeswari today (July 11, 2013). He heads a delegation visiting Slovakia on the occasion of the 7th meeting of the joint Slovak-India Committee for Economic Cooperation held in Bratislava on July 11-12, 2013.
"The bilateral relations of our countries are traditionally friendly, both in terms of political and economic cooperation,” stated State Secretary Burian. They expressed the conviction that the meeting of the joint committee will bring further impetuses, ideas and the concrete projects needed to establish closer economic cooperation between Slovakia and India, which has established itself as a significant global player. Our countries have great potential in the trade-and-commerce area, reaching a mutual trade turnover of €231 million last year. There is scope for further increasing the dynamics of trade mainly in energy, the environment, the automotive and engineering sector, as well as in agriculture. State Secretary Burian also stressed the importance of research and innovation within the regional cooperation that exists between India and the V4 countries.
They appreciated the regular dialogue between the foreign affairs ministries at the political and expert level. The discussions also revolved around the cooperation of Slovakia and India in the context of relations with the European Union.
