'We, Europeans, should be more than ashamed' - Koenig
Moscow, 23.07.2013
In an exclusive interview with the Voice of Russia, Peter Koenig, a former World Bank economist, talks about media manipulation, the influence of the US on the global informational agenda and the lack of solidarity within Europe. Peter Koenig is the author of "Implosion, an economic thriller based on facts". Do you believe that the mainstream media are trying to manipulate the public’s perception of the economic crisis? Most media companies claim that they offer “factual” and “neutral” reporting but is it true? When on July 17th, the news broke that the Greek Parliament had approved the draconian conditions of the troika (IMF, ECB and the European Commission) to dismiss another 15,000 to 20,000 state employees to “save money”, so that the criminal troika can put more debt on generations of Greeks to come, adding misery to insult, it felt like a final strike was shattering a nation while all its neighbors would watch and nod. No protests. Just matter-of-factly witnessing how a helpless brother is being tortured and slowly destroyed. We, Europeans, should be more than ashamed. There is no word for it. Basically, the media is telling people when to turn on and when to turn off their emotions, making them feel either angry or indifferent. Do you have other examples of the mainstream media manipulations? Last week, the Swiss and other European countries’ corporate puppet mainstream media were blaring and repeating hourly again and again, how unfair and political the jailing of opposition leader Alexei Navalny was, but hardly mentioning the misappropriation charges. That was another “information bomb” made by the Western media, indoctrinating European citizens against President Putin. There is no putting in perspective, ever. For example, in which European country would a high-level political embezzler not be put in jail? And, there is no mentioning of the 30,000 Californian prisoners on hunger strike because of the torturous, inhuman and illegal solitary confinements practiced by the totalitarian US State. There is hardly a mention of the thousands of people killed by American drones around the globe in countries which are unfriendly to US hegemony. The European puppet media are silent. Cowards. No words can express the shame. The “puppet media” claim to be independent, but it often seems that its opinions are vetted by the US State Department. For instance, do you think that the “Arab Spring” and the subsequent chaos got a fair media coverage? When the same media portray happily cheery Egyptians about the military take-over, smashing the Moslem Brotherhood and their idol, President Mursi, the failed American ally, they, the media, make believe it was a revolution by the people for the people. Western journalists follow their script, ‘ignoring’ the fact that the Egyptian military would never act without the explicit nod – if not order – from their paymaster, the US Government that transfers annually at least US$ 1.5 billion to Egypt, the transfers being a remnant of the 1978 Camp David Accords. More than two thirds of it goes to the generals and their minions, while the new president, a darling of the empire, is already waiting in the wings. The mainstream media seem to be purposefully ignoring or minimizing the importance of the concept of national independence. The US influence or outright domination is presented like a normal state of affairs. Would you agree with the view that the Europe, as a whole, has lost the notion of “self-respect”? When France, followed by Italy, Spain and Portugal, abdicate their sovereignty and respect for the leader of another sovereign nation, obeying orders of the transatlantic terror empire, barring over-flight rights to the President of Bolivia, the cowardice and shame become almost unbearable. When we, Europeans, are daily flooded with lies and manipulated ‘news’, it begs the question – when do we wake up? How much longer do we fall for deceit and falsehood? When do we, European Nations, take our lives in our own sovereign hands and decide our own autonomous destiny? Watching out in solidarity for our neighbors and brothers, being true to our thousands of years old history that after wars and myriad bloody battles has formed the patchwork of a peaceful and self-sufficient Europe that we were until 1980, when we allowed the tyrannical Anglo-Saxon driven neoliberalism to take over? When will we wake up? Valentin Mândrăşescu odkaz na stránku
