| Robert Fico’s cabinet will keep Bratislava airport in state hands despite the fact that it runs the risk of an international court dispute with Penta and Vienna airport, which are members of the winning privatization consortium Airport TwoOne. At its session today the government will cancel the privatization approved by the former government and so also the privatization contract with the investor. The government says that the investor failed to meet the condition of gaining the approval of the antitrust authority PMU by mid-August. Transport minister Lubomir Vazny does not consider finding funds for the future development of the airport as a problem. In his opinion the airport is able to secure a loan of Sk 2-2.5bn by itself even without the government’s guarantees.
However the privatization could have brought in Sk 9-9.75bn to the airport, depending on whether the shares would go to TwoOne or the second ranking consortium Abertis. The state treasury could have received an additional Sk 7-11.5bn for the majority stake. |
