| Quality farm products: "Paprika Žitava" and "Gofio Canario" get EU protection |

| The European Commission has approved the addition of two new quality farm products to the register of protected designations of origin (PDOs) and protected geographical indications (PGIs). These are, for Slovakia, " Paprika Žitava " / "Žitavská paprika" (PDO), a sweet paprika with a typical orange-red colour obtained from the grinding of dried Capsicum chilli pepper grown in the Danubian lowland; and for Spain, " Gofio Canario " (PGI), a traditional food from the Canary Islands dating back to the indigenous inhabitants of the archipelago before the Spanish conquest. "Gofio Canario" consists of milled and roasted cereals, to which broad beans, chick peas, soya and/or sea salt may be added. The denominations will be added to the list of more than 1,200 products already protected. More information: webpages on quality products and DOOR database of protected products.
