| Unemployment rate falls slightly |

| Unemployment reached 12.8 percent in May 2014 which is 0.16 percentage points lower than unemployment rate in April and 1.46-percentage point decrease year on year, the Central Office of Labour said on June 20.
There were 345,000 registered job seekers in the end of May which is 4,300 people less than in April 2014. In year on year comparison, it is 39,500 less of unemployed people than in 2013, the SITA newswire reported.
The unemployment rate counting also with people taking sick leave or work experience for graduates reached 14.27 percent in May 2014 which is 0.19 percentage point less than in April and 1.12 percentage point less in year on year comparison. The overall number of register unemployed people reached 385,000 in may 2014 which is 30,200 less than in may 2013.
We succeeded to place 17,200 job seekers in the labour market in May which is very positive number, Labour Minister Ján Richter said, as quoted by SITA.
He added that the number of long term unemployed people decreased by 1,650 and number of unemployed older than 50 decreased by 1,212 in May. Despite also number of registered graduates decreased by 1,110 their unemployment rate is still a problem, according to Richter. He said that 3,737 new graduates including 2,715 colleges graduates registered in labour offices in May which is higher number than in May 2013.
Richter also stated that the Labour Ministry is prepared to provide activation jobs for almost 180,000 people who get material need contributions at the beginning of July saying there will be 650 people controlling and coordinating those jobs.
