| State Secretary Burian at the final TTIP project conference: “Unique Opportunity for Business in Slovakia to Grow” |
| Bratislava, 02.07.2014 |
 |
| State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Peter Burian together with Ministry of Economy State Secretary Pavol Pavlis and Ambassador of the United States of America to Slovakia Theodore Sedgwick opened the final conference of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) project in the premises of the National Council of the Slovak Republic (Parliament) at Župné Námestie (square) today (June 30, 2014).
In his opening remarks, Burian appreciated the TTIP project and emphasized the need for engagement in communication – especially with respect to businessmen and the wider public – in the pursuit of an active dialogue about the preparation of the future EU-US trade agreement. As reiterated by Burian, TTIP preparations have the full political support of the Slovak Government. From the future agreement, he stated that Slovakia expects not only the reinforcing of Slovak-US trade contacts but also a significant intensification in mutual bilateral relations with the USA. “The importance of this agreement is beyond its economic contribution. This agreement has a strategic meaning for Slovakia and for both sides of the Atlantic. The increased economic interconnection will bring Europe and USA even closer, strengthen our political ties and, in doing so, also our global position. This indirect, secondary contribution of the economic agreement is of special importance nowadays, due to rapid globalization and the resultant competitive environment – when the economic and financial situation also represents a security factor,” stressed State Secretary Burian.
The conference today, geared mainly toward representatives of the state administration, MPs of the National Council of the Slovak Republic and MEPs of the European Parliament, was the last one in almost a year-long project entitled “Unique Opportunity for Business in Slovakia to Grow” organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic and Business Alliance of Slovakia in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. Part of the project was to work out a comprehensive analysis of TTIP influence on the Slovak economy based on a questionnaire survey, studies and round-table discussions taking place in Slovakia and abroad.
