“We try to promote Slovak agro food production on foreign markets“
Bratislava, 27.08.2014
“The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic helps promote the economic interests of Slovakia abroad through economic diplomacy. Promoting Slovak agro food production on foreign markets is one of our most important roles – and one that involves inputs from representatives of the primary production, breeding and research and business communities,” said State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Peter Javorčík today (August 22, 2014) in his Diplomatic Day address at the 41st international agriculture and food exposition AGROKOMPLEX 2014 in Nitra. This event – to which 27 representatives of diplomatic missions accredited to Slovakia from Europe, South America, the Near East, Asia and Africa accepted the invitation – is aimed at assisting Slovak agro businesses through reinforcing cooperation with their European trading partners as well as those from countries outside Europe in trade, science, research, education and production of compound feed in the livestock sector, as well as founding joint ventures for processing agro food products. Currently, since August 1, the third EU sanctions package against Russia aimed at deescalating the conflict and stopping its spread to southeastern Ukraine after the annexation of Crimea in March is in force. The countermeasure of the Russian Federation limiting food imports from the EU is pointing to the need for further diversification of international cooperation, as Javorik explains: “The sanctions create the pressure and impetus for the agricultural sector to strengthen its cooperation with alternative markets in Africa, Asia and America. This is the reality with which we must cope in Europe, and try to adapt as soon as possible.” He went on to express the conviction that the opportunity for the sector in Slovakia to present itself this year will be fully utilized, and will bring new partners and forms of cooperation. Agrokomplex already has a 41-year history. During this time it has gained the position of the most important agriculture forum in Slovakia – the aim of which is to present the production, processing and scientific potential of Slovak agriculturalists to interested domestic and foreign parties.
