| Kyjev, 15.09.2014 |

| Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák continued his visit to Ukraine – holding talks with his counterpart Foreign Affairs Minister Pavel Klimkin in Kiev September 11, 2014 They focused on current developments in the country, especially in the east of the country. Minister Lajčák emphasized that Slovakia is a friend of Ukraine. “We are interested in good neighborhood relations, as well as intensive, constructive and mutually advantageous bilateral cooperation," stressed the head of Slovak diplomacy. He also expressed support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He highlighted that the Slovak Government considers the annexation of Crimea earlier this year to have broken principles of international law. "We have an understanding of the complicated situation in Ukraine, which is under big pressure from the separatist forces," said the head of Slovak diplomacy. The Minister said that, as for sanctions, they are not the objective but an instrument to create conditions for a political solution of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The ministers also discussed the opportunities for the cooperation in the V4+Ukraine format.
Lajčák also met today with Mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko, with whom he discussed the internal political situation in the country and the preparations of parliamentary elections to be held at the end of the next month. The Slovak Minister conveyed to the Kiev Mayor an invitation from his Bratislava counterpart Milan Ftáčnik to visit the capital city of Slovakia. Bratislava and Kiev have long been partner cities.
The head of Slovak diplomacy presented the children´s neuro-surgical center in Kiev with a symbolic check for €10,000. Within this visit, Lajčák also brought to Ukraine almost three tons of humanitarian assistance – mainly medical materials – worth €40,000. The value of the bilateral humanitarian aid to Ukraine by Slovakia exceeds €750,000 this year. Slovakia significantly contributed to increasing the energy security of Ukraine when Slovakia – at its own costs, without EU resources – launched a reverse gas flow system that began deliveries to Ukraine on September 2, thus covering 40 percent of the Ukrainian import of this vital energy source.
Lajčák will continue in his visit to Ukraine and will meet top constitutional figures, as well as non-governmental organizations and will actively participate in the talks within the 11th year of the Yalta European Strategy Annual Meeting, where he will give an address on energy security issues.
