Bratislava, 11.12.2014
Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, welcomed Didier Burkhalter, President of the Swiss Confederation, who within the Federal Government also holds the post of Foreign Affairs Minister, today (December 9, 2014). The Swiss President, together with President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska, officially opened the innovation forum Swissness 2014 at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and held bilateral talks with Lajčák. Their talks revolved around opportunities for further developing bilateral cooperation, as well as an evaluation of current relations between the European Union and the Swiss Confederation. “The European Union and Switzerland jointly share many political and cultural values – highlighted by strong economic ties with significant potential. Good and mutually beneficial relations are therefore in the interest of both sides,” stated Lajčák. As for current foreign policy issues, they especially delved into the Swiss OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) Presidency in 2014 and the results of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Basel (December 4-5, 2014), as well as developments in Ukraine and the Western Balkans. They also discussed the cooperation of Switzerland and the Visegrad Group, as well as the International Visegrad Fund, which was on the agenda of separate meeting of the V4 prime ministers and President of the Swiss Confederation in the afternoon.
