| Opportunities for sponsors to support Slovakia’s Presidency of Council of EU and be seen by half a billion consumers |
| Bratislava, 27.01.2015 |
 |
| Businesses and firms have a unique opportunity to present themselves to the Slovak and European public if they decide to participate in sponsoring the first Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. They can get involved by responding to the call addressed to potential sponsors of the presidency announced by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. The purpose of the call for submission of preliminary sponsoring bids is to conduct a market survey to help the ministry identify specific sponsors and areas.
“The tradition is that every presidency has sponsors. The state saves funds and businesses promote their visibility. This way of sponsoring is beneficial to the presidency, to taxpayers and businesses alike,” said Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic. The call addresses potential sponsors who may be interested in contributing to organizational preparations and the holding of the presidency through a non-cash transaction by supplying or providing selected goods or services in return for marketing.
The Presidency of the Council of EU is a prestigious task of society-wide importance. In Slovakia alone more than 200 events, including negotiations by ministers of the 28 EU member states, will be held and about 20,000 delegates from across the EU will arrive. That will bring a significant demand for goods and services and at the same time a unique opportunity for a business to introduce itself to the wide Slovak and European public, including half a billion consumers. Slovakia will assume the rotating presidency on 1 July 2016.
Drawing from the experience of previous presidencies of EU member states, the diplomacy department has identified several possible areas to sponsor activities, such as ensuring the vehicle fleet, forwarding and shipping services, telecommunication services and traditional local food. MFEA SR will provide a marketing counter-transaction to the sponsors, with the extent dependent on the value of the sponsor’s contribution. Sponsors can acquire, for example, a media presentation marked with “Partner of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of EU”, placing the sponsor’s business logo on the Presidency website, advertisement panels or promotional materials.
“The entire process of selecting sponsors will be in line with our legislation and fully transparent,” assured Minister Lajčák. The call emphasized that the department, when selecting sponsors, will adhere to the fundamental principles of equal treatment, non-discrimination between bidders, transparency and efficiency and effectiveness.
Bidders can submit their preliminary bids by 28 February 2015.
The first Slovak presidency of the Council of the EU is fast approaching. Preparations that started two and a half years ago are reaching the decisive phase. MFEA SR is ever more involving the wide public in the preparations and implementation. Last week (22 January 2015) Minister Lajčák made the call for submission of designs for the presidency logo and announced job opportunities for young people related to implementation of presidency activities in both Slovakia and Brussels.
