| Trade surplus of €529 million in February |
| Bratislava, 10.04.2015 |
 |
| Slovakia’s foreign trade posted a surplus of €529 million in February 2015, which was €11.9 million more than the one recorded in February 2014, the Slovak Statistics Office reported on April 9.
It achieved a marked surplus thanks to growing exports, analyst Ľubomír Koršňák Korsnak of UniCredit Bank Czech Republic and Slovakia stated in a commentary. Overall exports reached €5.416 billion, recording year-on-year growth of 1.7 percent. Overall imports of goods were up 1.6 percent y-o-y to reach €4.887 billion.
When the first two months of the year are considered, a surplus of €921.8 million was recorded, which was €39.1 million lower when compared to the same period last year. Overall exports of goods over this period went down by 0.7 percent y-o-y to €10.452 billion, with overall imports down 0.3 percent y-o-y to €9.531 billion.
Koršňák stated that more recent developments have been in contrast with the second half of last year, when the country’s foreign trade balance was driven by falling imports.
When seasonal impacts are considered, the turnover in foreign trade in February went up for the fourth month in a row, with both exports and imports posting growth again on annual terms. This was despite persistent annual drops in export prices and energy prices, he said.
