| A representative public opinion survey carried out for the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic by FOCUS agency shows that the Slovak public feels positively about how the “Slovakia brand” is evolving. As many as 83% of respondents agree that it’s necessary to invest resources devoted to creating the brand that will help Slovakia be more recognizable globally. “I was also pleased that most people agree with our vision to present Slovakia in the world as a modern and diverse country with clever and creative people,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák said in assessing the survey results. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic asked the respondents about their views on the qualities that most fit Slovakia and its citizens – as experiences from other countries prove that only a brand with which the domestic public identifies with can be successful. As for our most-fitting quality, approximately 84% respondents think it is resourcefulness, three quarters think it is adaptability, and more than 68% consider Slovakia a diverse country offering many contrasts over a small amount of territory.
The survey showed that in appropriate segments of Slovakia´s presentation, for example in tourism, it’s also possible to use folklore, which most respondents consider a fitting characteristic – while maintaining an overall emphasis on the modern and innovative attributes of Slovakia and Slovaks.
As fitting qualities, the survey largely featured hospitality/good-heartedness (23 %) and diligence/industriousness (12 %). The respondents stated own home country (25 %), beautiful nature (22 %), and the High Tatras (10 %) as spontaneous association with the term “Slovakia". Considering visual imaging of the “Slovak brand”, even 84% respondents think it should reflect the tricolor colors (white-blue-red) and 81% also consider using the national coat of arms as appropriate.
The survey was carried out at the turn of January and February 2015 on a sample of 1,010 people.MZV |
