| Bratislava, 05.06.2015 |
|
| State Secretary of the Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry Igor Slobodník received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt Amr Wafik El Henawy.
The Egyptian Ambassador provided Slobodník with an overview of the current situation in Egypt before the currently postponed parliamentary elections, now to be held in the autumn. They also broached developments in the security situation in the country with regard to the approaching summer tourist season.
In the discussion they placed special emphasis on developing Slovak-Egyptian bilateral relations, and how a successful carrying out of the Egyptian parliamentary elections will contribute to planning further bilateral contacts between the countries. They also spoke about restoring the activities to provide for a necessary legislative framework for developing Slovak-Egyptian economic and business relations. The preparations and timing of the working visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák to the Arab Republic of Egypt and the possible participation of Slovak businessmen who could thus establish direct contacts with the business sector in Egypt were also discussed.
Slobodník also reminded El Henawy that Slovakia is always ready to help Egypt in its societal transformation.
They also delved into global security issues – also with regard to the upcoming GLOBSEC 2015 international security conference in Bratislava. Possible topics that could be tabled at the conference in the next year when the Slovak Republic takes over the Presidency baton in the Council of the European Union were also mentioned. They also exchanged views on current developments in the Near East region. MZV |
