Minister Lajčák at GLOBSEC: Lessons learned and ways out of security crises
Bratislava, 19.06.2015
Global security developments and the main challenges that the international community faces were emphasized by Miroslav Lajčák, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, in the introduction to the GLOBSEC security conference. Today in Bratislava Minister Lajčák opened the 10th year of the prestigious event attended by presidents, prime ministers, ministers and other leading persons and international experts from over 60 countries. “Several crises have accumulated that have yielded several lessons in the past year” stated Minister Lajčák. “The need has become apparent to better listen to each other and to engage more in a dialogue. The new threats coming from our eastern and southern neighbourhood have at the same time strongly reminded us of the importance of the values which our community is based on,” stated Minister Lajčák when summarising the origin, course and potential solutions to the existing global challenges such as the financial situation in Greece, the status of the relations with Russia, developments in the Arab countries and the security status on the European continent. He also appreciated the ever higher prestige of the GLOBSEC conference. “GLOBSEC now ranks among the most important events and has situated Bratislava on the map of transatlantic thinking. It is a unique project of partnership between a non-governmental organization and the government and has developed from an initial student stage into one of the most important foreign policy and security events of a global dimension. It is a platform for a constructive confrontation with a wide array of policies with the leading political and expert community and with the opportunity to verify their correctness and viability,” stated Minister Lajčák in the introduction to the conference during which he will have a series of bilateral meetings with international partners.MZV
