Impetus for development of stronger dialogue with Indonesia
Bratislava, 14.08.2015
Slovakia is interested in revitalizing dialogue with Indonesia, whose status and importance has been growing in the dynamically developing region of South East Asia. How to “re-start” cooperation was discussed today (13 August) in Bratislava by Igor Slobodník, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, during a meeting with the Ambassador of Indonesia, Djumantoro Purwokoputro Purbo. Traditionally good relations between the two countries are the starting point for deepening cooperation. The partners agreed on the need to intensify contacts on the political level. The discussion topics included issues of practical implementation of economic projects in the upcoming period, the need to review the contractual basis in the economic area and the prospect of simplifying the visa regime for SR citizens. Slovak companies now invest primarily in the energy sector in Indonesia but agriculture and the defence industry also present potential. Slovakia and Indonesia have already started cooperating on a scientific research project of cultivated tropical wheat. Its objective is increasing food security in Indonesia, the fourth most populous country in the world. The officials also discussed partnerships at multilateral forums. State Secretary Slobodník congratulated his partner on the 70th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence that will be remembered on 17 August.MZV
