Ministry will support LGBTI help centres
Bratislava, 19.08.2015
The Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry will support operation of the Q-centre help centre for the LGBTI community in Bratislava as well as a pilot phase of the launch of a Q-centre in Košice with a subsidy of €20,000. The Ministry, that along with foreign affairs, handles also human right issues, has allocated the money within the Support and Protection of Human Rights programme, the SITA newswire reported. Q-centres offer free legal, social and psychological consultancy for the LGBTI community as well as people who are not yet sure about their orientation and their relatives. Q-centres are a project of the Queer Leaders Forum organisation and its budget is projected at €23,360. The forum will cover the rest of the budget from its own resources. Since November 2011 the centre assisted more than 500 individual, couple, group or other cases either via personal consulting, e-mail or phone contact, participation in support groups or another specialised consultancy. The main aim of the project is to improve and increase the quality of the life of LGBTI individuals and their relatives. This year the ambition of the Queer Leaders Forum is to extend operation of the help centre to Košice Region and launch a pilot phase of the same consultancy-community centre because, as of now, it is able to help clients from eastern Slovakia only via e-mail or phone communication.
