| Expand the Schengen zone. |

| The EU’s interior ministers yesterday approved a plan to expand the Schengen zone without borders by December 31, 2007. This is by three months later than ini-tial plans, but recently, as long as a 2-year delay seemed likely.
Slovaks could thus travel to the EU as of January 2008 without any border crossing checks and as of March they would also no longer have to show their passports or IDs at airports inside the EU.
By 2008, Slovakia will have to secure the protection of the 98 km long Slovak border with the Ukraine, as this will also be the EU’s outer frontier
