Bratislava, 28.11.2015
Igor Slobodník, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, together with his Norwegian counterpart, Elsbeth Tronstad, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited Košice and Prešov on 26 November 2015. At the 6th Forum of European Border Dialogues on cross-border cooperation in wider Europe, Slobodnik thanked Norway for its assistance provided for specific regional projects in Slovakia. The two officials visited Prešov and Košice to see the renovation projects of historical buildings and a facility for protection of victims of domestic violence, the “Safe Women’s Home – We, the Mothers” (“Bezpečný ženský domov – My Mamy”). In the new programming period 2014-2021, more than €113 million has been allocated for Slovakia under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. Within their consultations, the partners stated an excellent standard of bilateral relations and expressed interest in deepening them further. The discussion also focused on issues related to the current refugee crisis in Europe, the situation in Eastern Europe and in the Western Balkans, energy security and commitments related to climate change with regard to the upcoming Paris conference as well as on Norway-EU cooperation during Slovakia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2016.
