Czech PM hoping for compromise on British reforms
Brussels, 18.02.2016
The Czech Republic is taking a constructive line at the EU summit on the British proposed EU reforms and is pushing for a compromise agreement that Prime Minister Cameron can accept, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka told journalists in Brussels on Friday. He said the Czech Republic had similar reservations to those of approximately ten other EU member states regarding the conditions requested by Britain. They concern the index-linking of child benefits for foreign workers and the so-called emergency brake under which some benefits could be curtailed under strong pressure of economic migration. He said there were some positive shifts in the draft agreement submitted by Britain on Thursday night, including assurances that a change in the welfare system would not relate to other things than child benefits.
