Minister Lajčák appreciated the OSCE observer mission during the Slovak elections
Bratislava, 26.04.2016
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák received members of the OSCE observers’ mission for the parliamentary election in the Slovak Republic in Bratislava today. The six members of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) followed preparations for the general election in Slovakia, as well as their course itself on Saturday, 5 March, for three weeks. Minister Lajčák thanked the head of the mission, Ambassador Jorge Fuentes, for its activities and appreciated the work done by their members. He highlighted that the elections in the modern history of Slovakia have always been free, fair and transparent and he has no doubts that the assessment report the mission will submit within two months will come to the same conclusion. Talking with State Secretary Igor Slobodník, Fuentes positively appreciated the overall atmosphere of the elections, openness of both the government and civil sectors, and application of new aspects of the Election Act. OSCE/ODIHR observers were invited by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic to come for the parliamentary elections, in line with Slovakia’s commitments ensuing from its OSCE membership. The observers’ mission visited 25 polling stations with the objective to assess their preparations and course from the perspective of maintaining international commitments and the rule of law. odkaz na stránku
