Slovakia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU made eternal on a commemorative coin |

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic (MFEA SR), the National Bank of Slovakia and the Kremnica Mint festively introduced to the public a collector coin featuring the motif of Slovakia’s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Slovakia will assume the presidency on 1 July.
Slovakia will preside over one of the most important EU institutions for the first time in its history. The National Bank of Slovakia therefore decided to capture this important moment in the form of a silver collector coin with €10 face value. As Ivan Korčok, State Secretary of MFEA SR and Plenipotentiary of the Government for the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU said, the coin is a good way of bringing the Presidency message to the citizens. “The Presidency agenda is very extensive, challenging and complex. A commemorative coin, however, is something that makes the Presidency tangible and something every citizen can touch,” noted Korčok who together with Jozef Makúch, the Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia, and Ľuboš Kupec, Business Manager and Statutory Representative of the Kremnica Mint, introduced the commemorative coin to the public and in doing so launched its sale.
The author of the winning coin design is Czech artist Vladimír Pavlica, who also designed the commemorative two-euro coin for the Presidency. The artist said that participating in the competition was an honour for him and added: “I approached the design with deep humbleness, knowing that there is a large family of excellent artists in Slovakia. Being here today is a feast for me.” The commemorative coin engraving was made by Filip Čerťaský.
The face of the commemorative coin is dominated with SR’s state emblem with lines running to the centre to symbolize the importance of Slovakia during its Presidency. The reverse side of the coin features the silhouette of the Bratislava castle in the central composition with waves of the Danube River.
