Relations with China in the context of the Slovak Presidency

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Government Proxy for the Presidency of the Slovak Republic of the Council of the European Union Ivan Korčok held negotiations with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People´s Republic of China to the Slovak Republic Lin Lin today The meeting was dominated by historically the first Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. During our Presidency, talks will also revolve around the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership between the EU and the USA (TTIP), the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and granting China the status of market economy. “For the Slovak Presidency it is of key importance to reach a mutually acceptable agreement between the EU and China, as proposed by the European Commission,” stated State Secretary Korčok. The meeting was held at the time of the ongoing EU-China summit in Beijing with top Chinese representatives, EU President Donald Tusk, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in attendance. 12.07.2016 MZV
