Citizens expect palpable results from the European Union |
Bratislava, 06.11.2016 |

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and Slovak Government Proxy for the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Ivan Korčok, received deputies of the European Parliament Constitutional Affairs Committee (AFCO) today.
The primary aim of the visit by European parliamentarians was to know how the key actors of Slovak political life see the future development of European integration in the context of the contemporary crises facing the EU, including the implications of the British referendum.
“I am pleased to see that the constructive cooperation between the EP Constitutional Affairs Committee and the Slovak Presidency has been continuing,” noted state secretary of the diplomacy department Korčok, who has met the members of this committee for the second time. The discussions during the meeting also included issues of European election law and inter-institutional cooperation within the EU.
“I personally am convinced that further deepening of European integration can go on only once we have been able to resolve the timely problems we are facing,” said SR Government Proxy Korčok while simultaneously pointing out to the European MPs that citizens expect palpable outcomes and for that reason we should not dedicate all our energy just to technical issues of extending or shrinking the competences of the European institutions.
The European Parliament Constitutional Affairs Committee plays an important role in guiding the ideas of further deepening European integration. The European parliamentarians, besides holding a discussion with State Secretary Korčok, also met with the members of the Committee of the National Council of the Slovak Republic for European Affairs, officials from Slovakia’s judiciary and representatives of the non-governmental sector.
