Bratislava, 22.02.2017 |
 |
Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, today (21 February) received the Ambassador of Japan to Slovakia, Jun Shimmi, to primarily discuss development of mutual relations of the two countries and the planned reciprocal visits by top state officials from SR and Japan.
Lajčák emphasized that Japan is Slovakia’s important partner in political and economic areas and he specifically highlighted the signing of the agreement on social security between the countries in January 2017 that contributes to the expansion of activities of Japanese firms in Slovakia; presently 51 Japanese firms have operations in Slovakia and create about 10,000 jobs while, in contrast, only 250 Slovak citizens are employed in Japan. Minister Lajčák also appreciated the investment by the Japanese firm Minebea in construction of an enterprise that plans to manufacture electric motors in Košice and expressed hope that there will be more Japanese investment coming to Slovakia. Lajčák reiterated the invitation for Fumio Kishido, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, to visit Slovakia.
