Minister Lajčák meets with Japanese Ambassador Jun Shimmi |
Bratislava, 22.04.2017 |
 |
The current situation in the region of South-Eastern Asia, the status of negotiations on the EU-Japan economic partnership and free trade as well as the future of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) after the U.S. has abandoned this project, were discussed by Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Miroslav Lajčák, and the Ambassador of Japan to Slovakia, Jun Shimmi, today (21 April).
In their discussion the partners also focused on the opportunities for further multilateral cooperation, including under the United Nations platform where Slovakia shares the same priorities with Japan, namely sustainable peace, conflict prevention and mediation, sustainable development, promotion of peace operations and combating terrorism; the partners also discussed issues concerning reform of the UN Security Council where Japan now is a non-permanent member.
With regard to bilateral relations the minister especially appreciated the high frequency of visits at the ministerial level, including his planned trip scheduled to take place in July this year and the planned meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Fumio Kishido.
