State Secretary Korčok on a working visit to Japan |
Tokio, 24.05.2017 |
 |
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Korčok, has been on a working visit to Japan from 22-24 May that he started with a meeting of the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Motome Takisawa. The talks confirmed the existence of high-level bilateral relations, interest in more intensive trade cooperation and promotion of direct investment as well as enhancing the strategic cooperation between the EU and Japan that has been very attentively watching the developments concerning the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU. It is a key country for Japan in terms of its economic and financial interests in the EU and for that reason, Japan, just like Slovakia, cares about the most beneficial arrangements for the future relations of Great Britain and the EU following its departure from the EU. An exchange of views of the timely issues of international policy showed that both parties share the same values and have close positions related to key foreign policy issues.
In deliberations with Yoshio Sato, chair of the Committee on Europe of Keidanren, the Japan Business Federation, the Japanese partner appreciated Slovakia’s economic growth, responsible fiscal policy and lucrative conditions for Japanese investors who already have created more than 10,000 jobs in Slovakia. Both parties stated an identical position on the issue of global trade and the necessity to face protectionist trends. They acknowledged that Slovakia and Japan are open economies whose growth depends on free trade and for that reason they support early achievement of a strategic agreement between the EU and Japan in this area.
State Secretary Korčok concluded his visit to Japan with a meeting with the leadership of the Japan-Slovak Parliamentary Friendship Group. Korčok and the group chair, Naokazumo Takemoto, exchanged opinions on the global trade as well as of the situation in the region.
