| Arria-formula meeting of UNSC members on SSR |

| On Friday, February 16, 2007, the United Kingdom Mission to the UN, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the Slovak Republic to the UN, organised an Arria-formula meeting with participation of members of the Security Council and representatives of NGOs entitled ,,Security for All: Security Sector Reform in the interests of States and Citizens”. This meeting was held in connection with the Security Council open debate on Security Sector Reform (SSR), which will be organized by the Slovak Republic in the framework of its Presidency of the UNSC on February 20, 2007 and which will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic Mr. Ján Kubiš.
The aim of the Arria-formula meeting was to discuss SSR with representatives of countries concerned, UN entities, civil society and NGOs on the eve of the Security Council open debate. In its intervention, the representative of the Slovak Republic explained the reasons that led Slovakia to promote a debate on SSR at the UNSC as well as its thorough and long-term preparation, both at home and abroad, for the Security Council open debate on SSR. During the open debate an UNSC presidential statement is to be adopted.
