Slovakia will have a new telecoms operator |
Bratislava, 04.04.2018 |
|
The Antimonopoly Office has approved the establishment of a new telecommunication operator who wants to be the biggest alternative player on the market.
The Slovak Antimonopoly Office (PMÚ) gave the green light to the merger of companies Swan and Benestra on April 3, 2018. The authority issued its decision after more than seven months of detailed examination of the transaction and objections from competitors.
“The merger of Swan and Benestra is an important milestone in the process of consolidation of the Slovak telecommunications market and contributes significantly to our efforts to create a convergent Slovak operator capable of fully competing with its scope of services with the foreign troika [i.e. Slovak Telekom, Orange, O2],” chairman of the BoD and co-owner of Swan Juraj Ondriš said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
After the approval of the concentration by the Antimonopoly Office, both investors, DanubiaTel and Sandberg Capital, expect the transaction to be completed within one month.
Investments and plans
The investors have already announced investments in infrastructure, especially in the expansion of LTE networks. Special focus will be put on the development of modern services based on cloud technologies and on security services, the partner of Sandberg Capital and Benestra CEO Michal Rybovič said, adding that vast investments in the infrastructure, an offer of new services and products are planned.
