Parízek at political consultations held in Minsk |
Minsk, 07.04.2018 |
|
On 4-5 April 2018, political consultations took place in Minsk with Lukáš Parízek, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, taking part on behalf of the Slovak Republic and Oleg Kravchenko, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, on behalf of the hosting country. After the lifting of almost all sanctions in 2016, a new quality of relations‘ climate between the EU and Belarus was, in a certain sense, a unique opportunity in which the Slovak Republic has shown an interest and, also via these consultations, is continuing this trend.
The aim of the political consultations which symbolically took part on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries was to evaluate the state of bilateral relations, confirm interest in the continuation of political dialogue and, in particular, to identify new prospects for the development of bilateral relations. During his visit to Minsk, State Secretary Parízek underlined the concept of Slovakia’s approach to Belarus, which is based on the belief that intensification must run both ways, with both sides respecting the areas of common interest, including topics where our views diverge.
The attention of the partners was focused on prospects of economic cooperation with regard to which we lean on the Communication on Cooperation between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Belarus signed by prime ministers of both countries. It is this document that offers a very specific roadmap for development of our economic relations, the aim of which is to maximize the potential of mutual trade.
The parties also exchanged reflections on current issues related to the Eastern Partnership and selected regional themes. They also touched upon cooperation between Slovakia and Belarus within the framework of international organisations and in the context of Slovakia’s presiding over OSCE in 2019 and our priorities in it.
On the side line of the consultations Parizek was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei during which they exchanged positions on current issues.
