| First 500 jobseekers start training to work in automotive jobs |

| Neither labour offices nor the automotive industry dare to estimate to what extent the project will be successful.
The first 500 jobseekers registered with labour offices have joined a 21-day training programme for work in the automotive industry. Neither the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (ÚPSVaR) nor the Slovak Automotive Industry Association (ZAP) dare to estimate to what extent the initiative will be successful and effective.
“We will see how many of them show interest,” said Marián Valentovič, general director of ÚPSVaR, as cited by the SITA newswire. “Everyone who successfully passes the course,will complete it with a specific job offer.”
ZAP vice-president Július Hron expects that every fifth jobseeker who requalifies in this way may get employed and remain working and be more successful than previous ones.
Unlike previous re-qualification projects, within which the state sought to re-qualify jobseekers for work in this sphere, this one is prepared to meet the real needs of the automotive industry.
“The combination of 30 percent theory and 70 percent practice spent partly in companies, in particular may make a change,” said Hron, adding that previous courses were more theoretical and short-term. “This is a course, during which the participants can obtain the first competence of an operator. Afterwards they can advance to full-fledged qualifications.”
The government’s project “Prepared for Work” should enable 5,000 jobseekers to re-qualify by the end of this year. In total, as many as 20,000 of the unemployed should be re-qualified through the scheme by March 2021.
The costs of the project, taking place in 30 towns across Slovakia, are projected at almost €31 million.
