| Statement of Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs on Slovakia assuming the presidency of Visegrad Group |

| As of 1 July 2018, the Slovak Republic assumes its fifth presidency of the Visegrad Group (V4). The duration of the presidency is one year (until 30 June 2019); the Slovak Republic is assuming the presidency after Hungary and will pass it on to the Czech Republic in one year’s time. Our aim is to preserve the satisfactory programme continuity of these three presidencies.
The Slovak presidency of the V4 wishes to accentuate the importance of the Visegrad Group as an instrument for regional cooperation and sponsor of regional stability and good neighbourhood relations. Also, it aspires to confirm that the V4 is an integral part of the EU – presided by Slovakia, the Visegrad Group will actively participate in the debate on the future of the EU and contribute in this way to finding solutions to current challenges that we in the EU have been jointly facing. Last but not least, Slovakia as the presiding country wishes to come up with constructive proposals and solutions that would be widely acceptable. The Slovak presidency wants to bring specific results for the benefit of citizens in the following three priority programme areas: (1) Strong Europe, (2) Secure environment and (3) Smart solutions. Emphasis will be put on the strengthening of internal dynamics, competitiveness and cohesion of the Visegrad region, which is expressed by the Slovak presidency‘s slogan “Dynamic Visegrad for Europe”.
