The self-employed must prepare for e-communication |
Bratislava, 02.08.2018 |

People registered as self-employed in Slovakia should prick up their ears: as of July 1, 2018 they need to submit their tax returns only electronically. The aim is mostly to simplify the communication and save both the time and money of taxpayers.
“But the Slovak reality is much more complicated,” Ondrej Kvetko, self-employed from Revúca, who has been communicating with the Financial Administration since 2012, told The Slovak Spectator. “On one hand, it is more comfortable to send the documents from my own computer, but on the other hand, it is a yearly torture to fill in the tax return.”
He considers the system poorly arranged, chaotic and not user-friendly.
“I had to use the call centre each time I was submitting my tax return and had to be navigated through a maze of links,” Kvetko continued, adding that it is hard to remember the steps if you use the system only once a year.
Even though Financial Administration has adopted certain modifications to the system and plans to make it more user-friendly, it might not be enough.
