| State Secretary Ružička Meets with Szymon Szynkowski |

| State Secretary Ružička received today (9 January 2019) the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk and the ambassadors of Poland to the Visegrad 4 countries.
The Visegrad cooperation was the key theme of the meeting. State Secretary Ružička informed his partners about the course of the Slovak presidency of the Visegrad 4 and the activities planned for the second half of its term of office. In this respect, he said: “The objective of our presidency is to help shape the Visegrad 4 as a pro-European and constructive grouping and yet a grouping with sound critical thinking that contributes to solving the challenges and problems that the European community has been facing. We have managed, so far, to fulfil this goal also via specific initiatives and projects that are carried out together with our Visegrad and other European partners.” The Polish party highly appreciated the dynamics so far of the Slovak presidency, which will culminate in the upcoming period with the series of the highest-level meetings of Visegrad 4 countries with significant European and non-European partners and regional groupings. The partners therefore discussed in greater detail the content of individual formats, with emphasis on their specific positive outputs.
In this regard, the officials dealt with the topic of cooperation with the countries of the Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkans which are permanent foreign policy priorities of the Visegrad 4.
They also talked about regional initiatives and projects, particularly in the context of regional and European energy security: The Three Seas Initiative and Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Security. With regards to Nord Stream 2, both partners expressed strong reservations about this project.
In the area of bilateral relations, the partners acknowledged the development in the area of cross-border cooperation, the progress made regarding the building of transport and energy links as well as the growth of trade exchange and investments. To conclude the meeting, State Secretary Ružička stated: “I am pleased that the Slovak-Polish relations have been evolving dynamically and are firmly anchored in the Visegrad 4 regional collaboration.”
