Washington, 04.05.2019
Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák talked with Philip Reeker, US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, in Washington today (3 May 2019). The partners talked about the further development of bilateral relations and emphasized the importance of the visit of the Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini to the White House, which follows up on the recent negotiations of both heads of diplomacy first in Washington and then in Bratislava. This creates a new impetus for deepening the cooperation in many areas. Lajčák and Reeker also talked about issues related to Slovakia’s chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) with the emphasis on the current developments in Ukraine. In this regard they evaluated the results of the recent presidential election and its possible impact on the further development of the situation in the Eastern European region, including Ukrainian-Russian relations. Lajčák and Reeker also delved into the situation in the Western Balkan region with a special focus on Macedonia and Albania. They further assessed the Chinese initiative Belt and Road, also following up on the recent forum held under the same name in Beijing, which was also attended by the head of Slovak diplomacy. odkaz na stránku
