|
The Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Miroslav Lajčák attended yesterday (12 June 2019) the first session of the Slovak Government’s Council for Export and Investment Promotion held this year at the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. The session was led by the Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Peter Žiga who co-chairs the Council together with the head of Slovak diplomacy.
The Council members discussed the issue of meeting the measures to support the implementation of the Strategy for External Economic Relations of the Slovak Republic for 2014-2020, submitted to the Council session by the Economy Ministry.
“The increase of the involvement of Slovak business entities in development cooperation belongs among the priorities of the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry,” stated Lajčák. According to him, together with mobilizing private sector resources, the engagement of businessmen is an important prerequisite for the success and sustainability of development activities. Therefore the topic was put on the agenda of the Council session held last year and has also remained a priority in 2019. Special attention to the engagement of the private sector is also paid by the OECD Development Assistance Committee Evaluation Report, which assessed the system of development cooperation in the Slovak Republic. One of the core recommendations is to increase funds for the official development cooperation. The increased budget should go to further reinforcing the engagement of the Slovak business community in development cooperation.
The Committee members welcomed the increased budget, which will multiply the positive effects of providing development cooperation and the possibilities for Slovak entities to penetrate foreign markets.
The Council took into consideration the information of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic about the Slovakia OECD Presidency at the OECD ministerial meeting. The material, the aim of which was to introduce the most important moments of the Presidency, attests to the fact that the tasks stated in the resolution were fully accomplished. “Slovakia’s OECD Presidency is seen as extremely successful,” stressed the head of Slovak diplomacy.
Based on the proposal of Slovak employers, there was an extensive discussion on the material: “The United Attitude of Employers in Development of Science, Research and Innovation in the Slovak Republic.” The employers pointed to the fact that the current situation of science, research and innovation is unsatisfactory, and without changes it will not be possible to achieve for Slovakia development in the future. The Council members decided that at the Government session they will support proposals of measures for improving the business environment and competitiveness.
The Council session was attended by its chairs – the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and the Minister of Economy – as well as by representatives from the ministries of Finance, Transport, Construction and Regional Development, Export-Import Bank of the Slovak Republic (EXIMBANKA SR), the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Employers’ Associations, the National Union of Employers, Club 500, the Slovak Association of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises and Traders, the Federation of Industrial Associations, the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency, the Slovak Business Agency, and the Slovak Guarantee and Development Bank.
