SaS Proposes to Classify E-additives in Four Categories in EU
Bratislava, 20.06.2019
Slovak opposition party Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), which is a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group in the European Parliament, proposed on Wednesday to classify in the EU the so-called E-additives to food into four categories – A, B, C and D – according to their effects on the human body. According to SaS agriculture team-leader Jarmila Halgasova, the EU’s food supervisory authority is overloaded and is thus unable to review the effects of all substances used in food, while the new classification could help consumers to distinguish between vitamin C and possibly carcinogenic stuff, for example. The A class should include no-risk and beneficial substances, the B group should comprise substances without any effects on the human body, while the C category should encompass matters that could have adverse effects on the organism if consumed in large amounts, and the D group should feature all harmful and not properly examined substances. odkaz na stránku
