| Miroslav Lajčák in Talks with Sergey Lavrov and Other Partners, in New York |

| On Thursday (September 26, 2019), in New York, after a series of multilateral activities, Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic and Chairperson-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), took part in four bilateral meetings with ministers of foreign affairs: Sergey Lavrov of the Russian Federation, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan of Armenia, Prak Sokhonn of Cambodia , and with Philip Reeker, US Acting Assistant Secretary of State, and Miroslav Jenča, UN Assistant Secretary-General.
With the Russian partner, Miroslav Lajčák talked primarily about current issues which dominate the OSCE region. Special attention was paid to Ukraine. “Recently, we have been witnessing positive events – the exchange of detainees between Russia and Ukraine, and the start of bridge reconstruction at the Luhansk Station. It is extremely important to maintain this positive trend of development,” stated Slovakia’s chief diplomat, who talked with Minister Lavrov about further possible actions. He conveyed certain expectations in relation to the conflict in Transnistria and the planned 5+2 talks. The partners also touched upon preparations for the December OSCE Ministerial Council in Slovakia.
Miroslav Lajčák also met with Philip Reeker, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. The partners discussed current issues related to the Slovak chairmanship in the OSCE, particularly the situation in Ukraine, and assessed developments in the region of the Western Balkans. They also talked about current topics resonating in global politics.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resolution and how it has been evolving, and further developments in bilateral relations, were discussed at the meeting of the chief Slovak diplomat and his Armenian counterpart Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. “I see in a positive light the fact that at the line of contact, in the area of Nagorno Karabakh, the OSCE has been observing a period of relative peace for some time now,” stated Lajčák, underlining that the measures for building trust have had a positive impact on the population in this region.
With Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, Miroslav Lajčák discussed opportunities of enhancing bilateral relations, with the emphasis on economy and trade. They also talked about open issues regarding relations between Cambodia and the European Union. The Slovakia’s chief diplomat called for continuing reform processes towards a stronger democracy in Cambodia.
The chief of Slovak diplomacy met with Miroslav Jenča, the UN Assistant Secretary-General, with whom he discussed the main challenges this organisation will be facing in the upcoming period. In this regard, they agreed that the UN, in coordination with nation-states, must exert a maximum effort to prevent conflicts. Miroslav Jenča highlighted that the role of Slovakia and its activities within the international community are viewed positively at the UN.
