Maas: The EU will respond to US tariffs with retaliatory measures
Berlín, 04.10.2019
The European Union (EU) is likely to respond to US tariffs with retaliation, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said. "The European Union will have to react, and once it has received the approval of the World Trade Organization, it is also likely to impose criminal duties," Maas told Funke. Maas later used the same wording on Twitter and added: "Europe is united on this issue. We are ready to negotiate common rules for support in the aviation industry. We can still avoid further damage." The World Trade Organization (WTO) on Wednesday (2 October) allowed the US to impose import duties on EU goods worth USD 7.5 billion (EUR 6.86 billion) for illegal subsidies to the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus. Washington announced new customs duties on EU products on Wednesday. From 18 October, an additional 10% duty will be imposed on aircraft imports, and 25% will be applied to many other goods. German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz said on Thursday (3 October) that Europe should respond cautiously, as trade conflicts in a globalized world are of no interest. odkaz na stránku
