Miroslav Lajčák Meets with Visegrad 4 Partners and Josep Borell
Bratislava, 11.12.2019
Miroslav Lajčák, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, took part in a working meeting of the chiefs of diplomacies of the Visegrad 4 countries with the Vice-President of the European Commission and the High representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borell. The meeting was initiated by the High Representative who was interested in the views of the V4 Foreign Affairs Ministers on the priorities regarding the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the Union in the institutional cycle that is now beginning. Miroslav Lajčák accentuated that the EU must focus more on its neighbourhood – the Western Balkans, Ukraine and the Eastern Partnership – and also on Africa since the situation in the nearest neighbourhood has a direct impact on the EU. The ministers and the High Representative agreed that in addition to supporting multilateralism, the EU must become a relevant player in the global arena, particularly in the currently deteriorating international environment. A prerequisite for this is the Union’s unity and a comprehensive approach across the board of its policies, extending to its foreign relations. It will be important to make the functioning of the Common Foreign and Security Policy more effective, something which has been subject to an intense discussion in Brussels. odkaz na stránku
